Dornoch to welcome Malaysian preacher

Dornoch Free Church is preparing for its Communion season the weekend of November 17-18 but this time the guest preacher will hail not from the Highlands but from Malaysia.

The Rev Dr. Kang San Tan is Head of Mission Studies at Redcliffe College, part of Cheltenham and Gloucester University.

A widely-known speaker and writer on international Christian mission, Dr Tan has worked with the Overseas Missionary Fellowship, initially as director of their work in Malaysia and subsequently as Director of Mission Research.

Dr Tan’s main research interests are in the areas of Asian theology and religions and he is a specialist in Islam and Buddhism. In 2003 he spent six months at the renowned Regent College, Vancouver, as scholar in residence and lecturer in missions.

“This is going to be a red-letter weekend for us in Dornoch as we welcome a speaker of Dr Tan’s gifts and experience. It will certainly give our Communion season an international dimension,” commented the Rev Angus Lamont, Free Church minister.

While not wishing to draw away churchgoers from their regular services, Rev Lamont pointed out there will be a service on Saturday evening at 7.30 and also an after-church event on Sunday at the same time and all are very welcome.
