Youth

THERE IS NO NEWS TO REPORT. NO ACCIDENTS WHILE CHILDREN WERE INVOLVED IN OUTDOOR PURSUITS. NO INCIDENTS OF CHILD ABUSE. NOTHING THE MEDIA WOULD BE INTERESTED IN.

There’s just the dull old boring news:

• 400 young people, a number from disadvantaged backgrounds, enjoyed holidays organised by Free Church Youth Camps;

• 1000 children benefited from Sunday Schools and youth clubs;
the Youth Project raised £12,196 to support street children in Kampala, Uganda;

• a team of young people are involved in producing the high quality youth magazine Free;

• the Church employs several youth workers who serve various communities, helping and encouraging children and young people;

• individual young people and teams of volunteers help in various projects abroad, including Eastern Europe and Latin America.

BUT ON THE OTHER HAND: MANY CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE ARE BEING “KEPT OFF THE STREETS” AND ENCOURAGED TO BE GOOD CITIZENS, TO RESIST PRESSURES TO ANTISOCIAL BEHAVIOUR, TO THINK MORE OF OTHERS THAN THEMSELVES, AND TO FIND A PURPOSE FOR LIFE (ALL THE THINGS THAT THE CHATTERING CLASSES BANG ON ABOUT ENDLESSLY).

So maybe there is some good news after all.
