Evening of Psalms in Greenock
June 08, 2012
A special Psalm singing event takes place tonight (Friday 8 June) in Inverclyde, with the Glasgow Psalm Singers leading the praise.
The 18th annual ‘Psalms for a Summer Evening’ begins at 7.30pm in St John’s Episcopal Church, Greenock, and visitors are most welcome.
St John’s is adjacent to the normal Greenock Free Church venue on Jamaica Street, which is unavailable this year.
The first ‘Psalms for a Summer Evening’, organised by the late Reverend Bobby Bray, was held in June 1988, and similar services have been held every year since then.
The Glasgow Psalm Singers, led by Donald Macrae and Evan Macdonald, comprise about two dozen singers from several congregations from Dunoon to Dunblane.
Reverend James MacIver, from Knock Free Church on the Isle of Lewis, is chairman for the evening. It is expected he will give the sermon on the theme of God’s sovereignty in the Psalms.
It will be a busy weekend for Mr MacIver, who is also preaching at East Kilbride Free Church’s 50th anniversary celebration the following day (Saturday 9 June).
All are welcome to join members and friends of the East Kilbride congregation on Blacklands Road for a special service beginning at 2pm.
